Statement of Purpose
Introduction:
I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity to write my SOP (Statement of Purpose). I am pleased to present myself as Applicant Name, the child of Mr. Father Name and Mrs. Mother Name. My date of birth is D.O.B, and my permanent address is Permanent Address, Nepal, but at the moment I am living in City name, Nepal. My passport number is passport Number. I am extremely focused on completing my career in the IT field and have chosen to continue my higher education with foreign integrity. My parents are sponsoring me for my higher studies in Australia. So, I want to chase after a Faculty Name course from Location, Sydney, Australia.
Academic background:
My mission in life is not merely just to study, but to pursue my academic ventures and achievements as well. This has made me study with a keen interest, which has led me to do my best throughout my study years. I have completed my Secondary Education Examination (S.E.E) from School Name/Address, Nepal and acquired a Grade Point Average (GPA) of Score/year. Then, without any break from my studies, I completed my +2 level i.e., National Education Board (N.E.B) in Year, taking science as a fundamental subject with physics, chemistry, and mathematics and obtaining a G.P.A of Score from College/ High School name, Address, Kathmandu. In the final analysis, I have kept an urge to get an international degree in information technology and have started exploring it. I feel that this is my driving passion that will allow me to flourish during the years that I will be studying at University Name. With these motives, I attended the IELTS exam on completed year and scored an overall Score number (L-Number, R- Number, W- Number, S- Number).
Family and Economical Background:
I have a small family unit of three members: my parents and myself. Concerning my economy, my father is a businessman who owns Business Name, a local company, and earns around NRS (Amount) annually. My stepmother is a housewife. We have rented out our two houses in Kathmandu, Place name, where we earn NRS (Amount) per year, and in Location, where we earn more than NRS (Amount) per year. With all these income sources, our total annual income becomes NRS (Total Amount). My father owns land in different cities in Nepal. My parents have a strong standing in my country with an excellent source of earnings. My parents are responsible and capable of all my expenditure throughout my stay in Australia. I am the only son/daughter of my parents, and without question, they will support and fund all the required expenses for my stay and study.
Reason for not choosing Nepal:
Firstly, the education system of Nepal has not yet been fully established. Secondly, our degree is not recognised globally. Although bachelor courses in IT fields are available here in KIST College, British College, TU Institute of Science and Technology, Islington College, Kathmandu University, etc., they offer degrees like BSc. CSIT, BIT, BIM, BCA, BSc (Hons) Computer Networking IT Security, and much more. However, the teaching method is more based on theory than practical, and many colleges doesn’t even have the modern equipment required for the progress of the course. The quality of education is yet to lag behind as compared to developed countries. The syllabus is outdated and the teachers are not familiar with the modern ways of teaching and the modern subjects that are required by the students to keep them up to date with the world. The degree honoured by Nepalese institutions is not admired across the globe. That means, the validity of Nepalese universities and certificates is fragile. There are a few acceptable universities and institutes with controlled seats. Admission is concluded through an entrance quota scheme in it. The assets, configuration, and course components are not adequate for students to interpret appropriately. Additionally, a bachelor’s degree generally takes 4 academic years to finish, but due to delays in the test and result schedule, it now takes almost 5 years, which is why I chose to study abroad.
Likewise, my family and friends also recommended that I get an international bachelor’s degree, which I believe will lead me to a successful life and career. Some of my relatives are acquiring higher education from Australia and I have observed that they are more optimistic, positive, confident and earning well in Nepal. If I continue my studies here, I find it impossible to imagine working with the same competence as my elders while taking outdated courses that emphasise theory over practical application. I think Australia can upgrade my abilities and make me a more valuable candidate to connect and succeed in this sector. Hence, I have made the commitment to select Australia for my further studies.
Reason to choose Australia
My major reason for preferring none other than Australia is the wonderful quality of education at an affordable price. A high standard of education is essential for a comfortable career, which is finer in Australia than in developing countries like Nepal. As we know, Australia is a friendly, conflict-free, peaceful country. Thousands of students feel more sheltered. Australia provides greater security for students than other countries. Australia is the 10th happiest country in the world with a cheerful public, which makes it easier for students to adapt to their new life throughout their studies in Australia. Every year, the number of international students in Australia increases. Nowadays, Australia is rated as the third best international landing place for study across the globe, after United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK). Climatic status is also an essential thing that should be studied while going for study. The weather conditions of Canada, UK, USA, European countries, and other countries have different environments, which can produce obstacles for me to settling there. But Australia has a climate comparable to Nepal’s, which I am comfortable with. Australia maintains a good quality of life with a satisfactory cost of living and a part-time job. In terms of language, nearly 80% of Australians speak English, which makes it easier to deal with them. Unlike countries like Korea, Germany, Spain, and Turkey, most people communicate in their own mother tongue, which makes it difficult for international students. Australia is a multicultural and multi-religious country, which allows its residents to pursue any religion and customs they adore. It is doubtless that education gained from Australia is wonderful in the world, with well-certified and skilled educators in all colleges and universities.
Moreover, Australia has an international student-friendly education policy. Australia provides many facilities for their students in comparison to the European and American countries. To get admission to American universities, I should take the extra test, i.e., SAT or ACT, which takes more time for preparation and the Bachelor’s degree is 4 years. The tuition fees and living expenses are also expensive in the US as compared to Australia. Fee: USD 31,950/year), Carroll University (Fee: USD 34,330/year), Keiser University Flagship Campus (Fee: USD 36,100/year), and Trine University (Fee: USD 36,700/year) have all offered similar programmes for the August-September intake, but at a higher tuition. And the second most popular destination is UK which has frequent alternations in immigration policies for students, which leads to students being aware of not choosing the UK, and also their currency rate is higher than Australia’s, which makes living and education there expensive: Lancaster University (Fee: GBP 25,285/year), Royal Holloway University of London (Fee: GBP 27,215/year), The University of Edinburgh (Fee: GBP 30,420/year), Imperial College London (Fee: GBP 34,022/year). And even education policy for international students is volatile in the UK. Similarly, Canada has extreme weather conditions, which will make it difficult to adjust there, and also does not enroll students directly. The tuition costs are also expensive in Canada. Some of the universities I have found during my research are: University of Toronto (Fee: CAD 58,227/year), University of Waterloo (Fee: CAD 59,445/year), and University of Ottawa (Fee: CAD 52,766/year). Also, Australia is better in terms of security for international students than many countries in the world. As a result, I determined that I should study in Australia. Many organisations have been constructed in Australia to help students. Some of the organisations are:
(1) Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Course for Overseas Students [CRICOS]
It preserves the standard of the institutions providing education for foreign students.
(2) Tuition Fee Protection Service [TPS]
It guarantees a refund of tuition fees in case the education provider is suspended or shuts down.
The government has established the ESOS [Education Service for Overseas Students] act, which summarises the rights and responsibilities of three parties (student, education provider, and the government). Australia has a health policy called Overseas Student Health Cover [OSHC], which provides a finite health budget for international students. Such schemes are not arranged by the UK and US governments. Finally, out of 100 top universities in the world, 8 belong to Australia and the cities of Australia provide a peaceful and friendly environment to the students.
Reason for Choosing Sydney:
Although there are many beautiful cities in Australia i.e., Queensland, Canberra, Melbourne, Victoria, Sydney, Tasmania many more but I preferred Sydney. Among other cities Sydney is popular choice and the culture of Sydney is exciting. Many awesome festivals i.e. The Sydney Festival, Sydney Mardis Gras, Vivid Sydney Festival etc are celebrated in the Sydney where I will get the chance to explore and experience new traditions. Sydney has huge diversity among the students where I will be studying with the students with different languages, cultures, and traditions from around the world. Sydney has got many Gardens where we can read. As we know the city is transportation hub of the country so there will not any problem for transportation. We can find plenty of jobs around the Sydney because this city is the powerhouse of the Australia. Sydney is the largest city, key Australian tourist destinations and has direct access to international flight. In 2021 Sydney was ranked as the fourth safest city in the world which makes it more suitable to live. Many impressive stretch suburb beaches provide mood refreshing environment where people can stay seaside picnics; relax in sun after a stimulating swim in the ocean. I have also got some of my relatives in Sydney so it will be easier for me to meet them. Wonderful climate, World class institutions, Security, Affordable Quality Education for international student are other reasons to study in Sydney. In Sydney I can be blessed with diverse weather, culture and along with the composition of higher quality Education.
Reason to choose University Name:
Before choosing Australian institutions for my further studies, I went through various study forums on the homepages of universities, taking account of my qualifications and desired courses, such as www.studyinaustralia.gov.au, www.topuniversities.com, www.universitiesaustralia.edu.au etc. There are many good universities in Sydney city which offer similar courses, such as the University of Technology Sydney (Fee: AUD 46,620/year), Macquarie University (Fee: AUD 39,800/year), La Trobe University (Fee: AUD 35,600/year), and Western Sydney University (Fee: AUD 30,880/year). Among them, I chose Western Sydney University for various reasons after research. First of all, the course I have chosen is available at an affordable cost, including with a scholarship. So, I would like to study at University Name because I found it to be a good fit for my studies. It is well reputed university for providing quality of education with proper practical based learning system. Amazingly, University Name has ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world. It is well facilitated with well-equipped computer labs, library for student, student lounge and others. It is located in City Name, Australia, which is linked with good transportation of railways as well as roadways. It is linked and has partnerships with many industries, which helps students to train themselves for better careers.
On top of that, the university has ranked 1st in the world for driving the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 1st in the world for SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, 2nd in the world for SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, 3rd in the world for SDG 5: Gender Equality, 4th in the world for SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities, 5th in the world for SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals and many more, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022. University Name values academic excellence, integrity, and the pursuit of knowledge. Through Global Mobility, internship and work-placement programs, the university provides graduates with unlimited opportunities to learn, travel and work in more than 400 destinations across the globe. University Name offers $25 million in undergraduate scholarships every year, which includes a generous range of university and donor-funded opportunities. Similarly, I have even offered a multi-year scholarship of AUD 3,000 each year for my course. Hence, good resources and infrastructure for study with different services, and their previous education records make me choose this university.
Reason of choosing the Faculty Name:
I started to learn computer science in class 4 as it was a mandatory subject and one of my favourite subjects. I used to be excited and eager to learn more about computers in my computer class. My educational environment and the people around me play a vital role in my ambition to become an IT manpower. Before the 8th standard, I had only dealt with MS-PAINT, MS-WORD, MS-EXCEL, MS-POWERPOINT and so on. With the increments in Grade, I was introduced to QBASIC and HTML. So, with the motive to accomplish my goal, I took Science in +2 levels with Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. There was computer science in +1 only and I got good grades on the examination of computer science. I am completely familiar with the course that I will be studying in WSU. Thus, I am very positive about myself and am ambitious to achieve it. So, I intend to apply for a Faculty Name to be admitted to University Name, City Name.

Future Career plan:
Since my childhood, I have enjoyed a variety of games on my desktop and gaming consoles. Games like GTA San Andreas, Call of Duty, God of War, Football, etc., were some of my favourites during those days. Nowadays, PUBG, Garena Free Fire, Clash of Clans, etc., are now dominating the gaming industry. Even in Nepal, the gaming scene has slowly started to grow, with professional gamers, eSports tournaments, and mobile gaming taking over local digital platforms. There are thousands of Nepalese players playing games on their phones as well as on their PCs. However, there is a scarcity of game developers, game designers, game artists, and game project managers to attempt big game development projects. It has only been about five years game development activities started in Nepal; hence I have seen numerous scopes of gaming development industry here.
After completing my undergraduate degree in Australia, I will surely be back in my native country, where I have to devote my skills and knowledge to the betterment of the gaming sector. Here are some local game companies such as AR Cube, Semantic Creations, Yarsa Games, Reizon Studios, and Red Tail Studios, etc., where I can work as a game developer initially and have a salary range from 30 thousand to 50 thousand Nepalese rupees. Gradually, after gaining real-world working experience, my earnings will be more than NRS. 70 thousand per month.
With the international degree, I can even get the opportunity to work in neighbouring countries like India and China, which are emerging rapidly in the gaming sector. Some of the popular IT companies in India focusing on game development are KPIs IT Solution, BR Softech, Vervelogic Cover Infotech, Chetu Software Solution. Besides that, I can work as a freelancer Game developer on freelancing sites like Upwork, Designhill, Behance, Toptal, Fiverr, and a lot more.
Looking towards my long-term career plan, I want to invest my earnings, along with my skills and expertise, in the development of the gaming sector in Nepal. Therefore, I have planned to establish a startup gaming company where I can share my expertise with other game developers. If I can be able to develop successful games somewhere similar to PUBG, then there will be no limit to how much money I can make from them. If everything goes according to my plans for the future, I picture myself as a successful gaming specialist in Nepal. Therefore, in order to complete my professional ambition, I wish to get an education of a world-class standard by studying in Australia.
Apart from that, I have a strong connection with my family and the people of Nepal. My parents have been kind, caring, and ideal for me since childhood, and they have had a big dream of seeing me as a successful IT professional in my own nation.
