Sop sample for Bachelor of Business in Hospitality Management course for Australia
Statement of Purpose (SOP)
The most appealing characteristic in a person, in my opinion, is their drive to work hard, go the extra mile, and always enhance their abilities. I have tried to incorporate this concept in myself ever since I was a young child. I have come to the realization that I still have a long way to go because of my ongoing motivation to learn new things, develop new abilities, and enhance my general well-being. In order to acquire new skills, experience, and a world-class education, I want to pursue a Bachelor of Business in Hospitality Management from University Name, Australia.
Introduction and Academic Background
I am introducing myself as applicant’s name, born in Date of birth as a daughter/son of Mr. Father’s name and Mrs. Mother’s name. My passport number is Number and I am a permanent resident of Permanent Address. From the time I was in school, I worked hard to learn new things and understand them well enough that I wouldn’t forget them. I have also always done well in school and been a responsible student.
Looking towards my academic background, I have attended the Secondary Education Examination (S.E.E) from School name located in School Address, Nepal scoring a G.P.A. of Academic score, Passed year. Then I completed my +2 level i.e., National Examination Board (N.E.B) in passed year taking Faculty name as major subjects with a G.P.A. of Academic score from High School name, Address, Nepal. In order to pursue my bachelor’s degree abroad I took the IELTS test on Date, Month, Year and got a Score in overall band, with scores of Score number in listening, Number in reading, Number in writing, and Number in speaking.
Reason for not choosing Nepal
As, I have chosen Course name and considering the course, it is very important for me to select the best university and education destination. My first priority was my home country, I have researched some universities and their affiliated colleges which provide bachelor degree in hospitality and tourism management namely
- Course: Course name

However, the quality of education in these universities and colleges still need to reach the level of developed country like Australia with real-world application rather than just a theoretical approach. First of all, the curriculum and teaching method is old and outdated in Nepal and has not been updated for a long time. The resources, infrastructures, and course contents are also not enough for students to understand properly. The educational system here is theoretical and cannot give enough experience in the sector which creates more difficulty for the students to tackle real-world problems. The degree I will gain here does not provide me worldwide recognition and exposure. While Australia can enhance my skill and knowledge and can make me a better candidate to fit in and prosper in this sector. Hence, I have made the decision of choosing Australia for my further studies in Hospitality Management at University name.
Reasons to choose Australia rather than other countries
Even though the course in this sector is also available in my country, I prefer abroad study for a better quality of education. Quality education is vital for a successful career which is better in foreign countries like Australia, USA, UK, European Countries etc., than in developing countries like Nepal. During my online research, I have found many top destinations for study abroad however my top priority are Australia, USA, UK and Canada. Because studying in my neighboring countries like India and China, I will not get enough practical and up-to-date education and degree recognition in India whereas I need to learn the native language to study in China.
Talking about European countries like France, Germany, Spain, Finland, Sweden, etc., they mostly have their own native language. Even if some of the courses are given in English, it will be challenging for me to concentrate exclusively on my academics since we still need to learn their language for daily life.
USA:
Being the top study destination in the world. USA has provided variety of courses to international student. However, due to higher currency exchange rate, expensive tuition fee and living cost, it has become less affordable study option for me. As I looked for the universities listed below, most of these courses have higher tuition and longer study duration i.e., 4 years which will make me cost more for additional 1 year fee and living expenses.
- Course Provider: University name

Besides that, passing tests like G.R.E., T.O.E.F.L., G.M.A.T., S.A.T., etc. are pre-requisites for admission, which can be challenging and time consuming for the international students. And I found very limited services made for international student as compared to that of Australia. As a result, I choose not to study abroad in the United States.
UK:
It is well known that UK is the 2nd top destination for abroad study due to its top ranked universities in the world. Still, most international students think twice about going there to study because the exchange rate is high, living costs are high, and tuition is expensive. Likewise, throughout the year its cold and wet due to rain while I prefer sunny and a clear weather. I have found some universities listed below but they have higher tuition fee than that of University name.

Therefore, I opt out United Kingdom from my study destination.
Canada:
Canada also has a long cold weather; this weather is the one I don’t like to live with. Weather conditions change frequently in Canada, as per the Canadian Encyclopedia the coldest temperature recorded in the country was -81 degrees Fahrenheit in long years back. Winters can be harsh with snow covering the ground for almost six months a year. Canadian education is also not preferred back home for employment purposes. Looking into Canadian universities, I have even found very limited courses options regarding Hospitality management with 4 years course duration. So, I really did not consider to choose Canada as my study destination.
Australia:
These days’ no one can deny the fact that Australia is ranked as the 3rd third abroad destination for study in the world after the USA and UK. And currently, Australia has become one of the top destinations among Nepalese students for their higher education. So, I researched about the educational system and all other aspects and came up with some findings. Australia provides a good quality of life with a suitable cost of living. Australia is known for better security for students than other countries. As Australia is a peaceful country without conflicts and crimes, students feel more secure and safe. Australia is the 10th happiest country in the world with friendly natives which will be easy for students to adapt to their new life throughout their studies in Australia. Climatic conditions are also one important thing that should be considered while going abroad for study. As the climatic condition of Canada, European countries, and others have different climates, it may create problems for me to adapt there. But Australia has a climate similar to Nepal which I am used to and won’t bother me anymore. Australia is a multicultural and multi-religious country. It is sure that the education acquired from Australia is one of the best in the world with well-qualified and experienced teachers in every university and college. Affordable costs of studies are a significant reason for me to choose Australia over other countries.
Another one is the currency value of Australia which is lower than countries like the USA, the UK, and European countries. About 76.8% of Australians speak the English language so it will be easier to cope with them. Whereas countries like Japan, Korea, and European countries, most of the people speak their own native and mother tongue language which is complicated for international students. Australia also has an international student-friendly education policy. One of the main reasons to study in Australia is their facilities for international students. Australia’s organizations such as the commonwealth register of institutions and courses for overseas students (CRICOS) maintain the standard of the institutions providing education for foreign students. The government has institutions providing education for foreign students. The government has formulated the ESOS act which outlines the rights and responsibilities of three parties i.e., student, education provider, and the government. Tuition fee protection service (TPS) guarantees a refund of the tuition fee if the education provider is suspended or shut down. (Source: https://www.studyinaustralia.gov.au). This provision is not available in the USA and the UK. To get admission to American universities, I should appear for the extra test i.e., SAT/ACT which takes more time for preparation. Australia also has a health insurance policy named overseas student health cover (OSHC) which covers specific health expenses for international students. Still, such policy is also not offered by the UK and the US governments. Thirdly, 7 out of 100 top universities in the world are in Australia and 7 out of 115 best student cities in the world are in Australia. (Source: link here)
The other major attractions of Australia which led me to dream my further academic career in Australian University are mentioned below:
- Quality of education, research and technology in world top universities.
- Globally Recognized Degree of Australian University.
- Best student life with modern means of transportation facilities.
- Quality of life and friendly people from different cultural background.
- A lot of exciting events and seminars happening inside and outside of college/university.
- Diversity of Education- Australian University offers wide variety of Courses and degree for all the students.
- Plenty of job opportunities with globally recognized Australian degree
- Research Opportunities
Therefore, I choose Australia as my study destination for my bachelors.
Reasons for choosing Sydney
Australia is a popular location to live while studying since it includes numerous large cities, including Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. I have chosen to study in Sydney among these places because of the city’s very diverse population of students, where I’ll meet people from all over the globe who speak various languages and have distinct customs and traditions. Sydney was named one of the world’s best cities for quality of life by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Besides having the biggest airport in Australia and easy access to important Australian tourist locations, Sydney is also the largest city in Australia. The world heritage-listed Sydney Opera House is the center of the city’s cultural life and welcomes countless tourists each year. At addition, it’s always a treat to take a break from reading in Hyde Park, the barracks, or the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Many stunning stretches of suburban beaches provide a mood-refreshing setting where people may enjoy beachside picnics and unwind in the sun after an energizing ocean swim. However, there are many other excellent reasons to study in Sydney, like the fantastic environment, world-class study alternatives, and inexpensive quality education for foreign students. With the combination of a top-notch education, I can take advantage of a diversified environment and culture. Hence, I want to study in Sydney.
Reasons for choosing University name
Before choosing Australian institutions for my further study, I went through various study forums on the homepage of universities taking account of my qualifications and desired courses such as website links here etc.
There are many good universities and colleges in Sydney such as University and College’s name who offer similar course and so on. Among them I choose University name for various reasons after research. First of all, course content of CIM was not in line with my preference of studies. And institutes like other institute name is not offering Bachelor’s Degree and only offering diploma level courses whereas other institute name didn’t have industrial partnership for work integrated learning. Although, other institute name had a great course as well as industrial partnership, it was more expensive (AUD amount) than University name (AUD amount after scholarship) where courses and industrial partnership both were similar and also offered me a scholarship of 20%. Similarly, other institute name offers Bachelor of Business Major Tourism & Hospitality at AUD amount for the course which is quite expensive and other institute name offers Bachelor of Tourism Management at AUD amount and course content does not suit as per my preference. So, I decided to study in University name as I found it to be suitable for my study.
Moreover, University name is well reputed for providing quality of education with a proper practical based learning system. At University name, Australia we will learn in state-of-the-art labs, clinics, studios and venues, alongside industry leaders and expert. Incentives to return back to Nepal
Nepal is the country where I was born, where I spent my childhood, where I enjoyed my teenage years, so I want this to be the place where I spend the rest of my life too. This rich culture and tradition, those games we played as children, those streets cannot be found anywhere else. I want my children to grow in the same culture and a bit of a developed country. I want to return back after gaining enough knowledge from Australia, so that I can contribute my skills in hospitality industry. Nepal is in need and waiting for professionals, who can change its face and turn into a well-developed country and I want to be one of them. Regarding Nepal’s present economic situation, as far as I am aware, the country’s foreign currency reserves have declined significantly, thus we may maintain and even increase the Foreign Currency Reserve by developing our hospitality industries. Thus, I strongly believe that every citizen should contribute their skills and knowledge not only for the sake of future generations but also for the sustainable development of Nepal.
As I will complete my bachelor’s degree, first of all I want to work in the hospitality field for some years (more than 10 years) and broaden my knowledge. After that, I want to establish my own resort in my hometown since it’s such a beautiful location, with views of the Gauri Shankar Mountain and trees, and a half-hour drive leads to the Sunkoshi River. My father will also retire from his job and we both can manage it. Additionally, it will be the great way to promote my hometown and local culture. I can start an eco-friendly business which will encourage Sustainable tourism and Eco tourism. Also, I will be able to look after my parents and earn decent money where I was born. So, this will be the strong factor for me to return to Nepal.
